How It Works

Connect & Clarify

We start by understanding what matters most to you, what’s working, and where things feel stuck — then choose a realistic place to begin.

Co-Create a Simple Plan

Goals are broken into clear, doable steps that fit your real life — whether that’s building routines or designing meaningful activities.

Practice in Real Life

Sessions are hands-on. We do things together — routines, organization, community outings, creative projects — and adjust as we go.

Shape Your Environment for Success

We set up spaces, cues, and systems that make follow-through feel easier and more natural.

Build Momentum & Confidence

Support evolves over time. For some, that means building sustainable independence. For others, it means maintaining meaningful engagement with the right level of ongoing support.

Sessions at Thrive OT can include Mango, our trained therapy dog.

Mango makes starting new activities easier for clients who feel hesitant or resistant. His gentle nudges, soft fur, and playful curiosity spark conversation, memories, and connection, helping sessions feel approachable and enjoyable.

He supports focus, engagement, and participation, whether we’re practicing routines at home, exploring hobbies, or getting outside. Even brief interactions with Mango can provide calm, joy, and a sense of accomplishment, reminding us that even small moments of connection can be powerful medicine.

About Me

I’m Cristina, an occupational therapist (OTR/L) with experience in acute care, rehabilitation, and community-based support. My path into this work began with my grandmother’s experience with dementia. Even with excellent medical services, she became increasingly isolated. I witnessed how true well-being depends on meaningful connection and engagement. People can still struggle when daily life feels overwhelming, unstructured, or disconnected.

In my clinical work with adults navigating memory changes, life transitions, mental health challenges, and executive functioning difficulties, I saw that same gap again and again. People were not lacking effort. They were lacking support that was hands-on, practical, and rooted in real life.

Some clients are rebuilding daily structure and confidence. Others are reconnecting with identity, purpose, and participation after change. Many are doing both.I created the kind of service I would want for myself and the kind I wish had existed for my grandmother.

When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me outside, hiking, paddle boarding, or soaking up the sunshine. I’ve recently fallen into fiber arts and am fully embracing the humility (and fun) of being a beginner. I’m gluten- and dairy-free and love experimenting with new recipes (recommendations always welcome). I’m an avid traveler, so if you ever want to swap adventure ideas, I’m your girl, surf spots, yoga destinations, or trails I’ve loved in the Dolomites, Patagonia, and along the Camino de Santiago.

About Mango

Mango  began his journey at just 10 weeks old as a hospital therapy puppy, bringing comfort to frontline workers during the pandemic. His presence was so beloved that he earned the official title of “Employee Morale Specialist” and even his very own badge.

At the hospital, Mango greeted new hires, joined training sessions, and became a familiar, reassuring presence. His playful, non-judgmental nature helps people relax, share their feelings, and simply breathe a little easier. Over the years, he has volunteered at three different hospitals and currently spends one day a week at PenBay Hospital, continuing to provide support and companionship to patients and staff alike.

Mango also served as the Dartmouth College mental health dog, where his calm, joyful presence helped students navigate stress and find moments of connection during challenging times.

Off-duty, Mango enjoys fetch, dock diving, and treats (he’s a true enthusiast!). However, he’s picky with fruits and vegetables: anything that isn’t presented mushy side out is promptly rejected. On rainy walks, he’s a bit of a diva, hopping over puddles to keep his paws dry. He’s a sensitive soul, still learning dog social skills, and he’s absolutely convinced he’s human. His signature move? Offering his paw, not to shake, but as a polite request for a chest rub.

From hospital corridors to therapy sessions, Mango’s gentle, non-judgmental nature helps people feel at ease, offering comfort, encouragement, and a friendly face that reminds us of the power of connection and joy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Wellness-focused occupational therapy looks at how your daily life is actually functioning — your routines, environment, habits, and meaningful activities — and helps you shape them in ways that support well-being.

Thrive OT is not clinic-based rehabilitation and is not driven by a single diagnosis or illness. While traditional models often center on treating a condition, our work centers on you — your values, your identity, and what feels meaningful and sustainable in real life.

Instead of asking, “What diagnosis do you have?” we ask, “What feels stuck, and what matters most?” From there, we build practical, hands-on support around your real goals.

  • If your biggest challenge is follow-through, organization, overwhelm, or maintaining routines, Executive Functioning & Daily Structure Support is likely a strong fit.

If you’re feeling disconnected, isolated, or wanting to re-engage in hobbies, community, or meaningful activities, Enrichment & Meaningful Participation Support may be right for you.

During your initial consultation, we clarify your goals and determine whether one service — or a combination — makes the most sense.

  • Yes. Many clients do.

Daily structure and meaningful engagement often influence each other. Building sustainable routines can create space for joy. Reconnecting with meaningful activities can increase motivation for structure.

Your plan can be fully tailored to support both.

  • Sessions take place wherever support is most useful:

    • In your home

    • In the community

    • Or virtually

Because real life doesn’t happen in a clinic, we work where change actually needs to occur.

  • Most clients meet once per week, especially at the beginning, to build momentum and consistency.

As goals become more established and systems feel steadier, frequency can adjust based on your needs. Some clients transition to biweekly sessions for continued accountability, while others choose more concentrated support during periods of transition.

We determine a rhythm that feels supportive, sustainable, and aligned with your goals.

  • Thrive OT operates as a private-pay service so that care can be individualized, flexible, and not restricted by insurance limitations.

This allows us to focus on real-life goals — structure, engagement, identity, independence — without diagnostic requirements or session caps.

  • No. You do not need a doctor’s referral to begin services with Thrive OT.

Because services are private pay and not insurance-driven, you can reach out directly to schedule an initial consultation. If you are working with other providers and would like collaboration, that can absolutely be coordinated — but it is not required to get started.

  • Mango is available as part of sessions, but always optional.

If you prefer sessions without him, that is completely respected.
